International Recruitment - Mining in Iceland
Problem
A leading Italian engineering and general contracting group was leading the construction of a dam in Iceland. The project was jeopardised by the departure of a large group of miners that could not withstand the harsh climatic conditions. The entire project was put at risk. The company urgently needed to locate experienced miners used to inhospitable climatic locations in order to minimise the delay. Continued delay of this large scale hydroelectric project would result in enormous financial loss for the company
Solved
A representative of the client company contacted Ergonos. After consultation and determining that the main issue was the climate in which the miners had to work, we immediately gathered our staff to determine the best course of action. Pulling from past experiences, we realized that Poland had a strong mining history and a harsh climate in many mining areas. We were able to identify a group of qualified and experienced miners with a proven track record who were available for immediate deployment. Ergonos organised all the administrative services relating to their departure to Iceland (including relevant documentation, travel and accommodation). We were in constant communication with both the miners and the client to ensure that both parties were satisfied with the working relationship.
The Results
The client company was greatly satisfied with the performance of the miners. By working with the Ergonos team, the client was able to successfully finish the construction of the dam and minimise the financial impact of the original miners' departure and the consequent delay of the hydroelectric project.
